ASA is very successful and gets things done. The vast majority of people in the movement are aware of this.
As someone who has run for local political office and won several times I am aware of the fact that you won't get a chance to speak at every event you'd like to. Sometimes you don't even get endorsed by people who you think should endorse you. That is politics.
To focus on this mic incident seems to be making a big deal out of nothing. We will be a lot more effective if we focus on the many things we agree on,rather than dwell on real and imagined disagreements and minor slights

    David,

Is it nothing? I hope so. Hopefully there's no pattern here, and ASA's leadership will be open to hearing from John Dennis and other libertarian candidates at protests or rallies they may organize in the future. Like you I appreciate the good work that ASA has done. And I appreciate the good work that John and people in the libertarian movement have done as well. I would like to see them work together to everyone's mutual benefit. Hope you agree.

I have boxes of documents literally.  If you are serious, I can supply you with quite a bit.

The two specific links you are referring to
1)Thinning of the herds – just google "Don Duncan Thinning of the herds"
    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/18/us/18enforce.html?_r=1&pagewanted=all

""Don Duncan, a spokesman for Americans for Safe Access, a leader in the medical marijuana movement, said that over-the-counter cash purchases should be permitted but that dispensaries should be nonprofit organizations. He also said marijuana collectives needed more regulation and a “thinning of the herd.”"

From what I have gathered the above statement is consistent with his actual activities which are actively trying to eliminate competition while getting him and his investors Restrictive permits.

This would be his right if he was just one more lobbyist honestly representing a corporation, (whether cannbe, or his own consulting service) but he uses a variety of cointelpro like activities which I have repeatedly mentioned in order to undermine and attack reasonable zoning that would allow competition if this was to be an industry.  As he successfully gets his competition closed the prices in an area go up, not down.  This does not serve the needs of legitimate medical marijuana patients, many of whom are on disability or fixed incomes due to illness.

2)Cannbe Corporation strives to become MacDonalds of Marijuana – http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/24/us/24pot.html

""Regardless of the outcome, CannBe says it expects to expand its business model nationwide to become what admirers say will be “the McDonald’s of marijuana.”" (referring to prop 19)

Cannbe Corporation – (This is what ASA agenda runs its policies for and will commit or threaten violence, smears and anything else it needs to achieve it's agenda_

    facebook page

    http://stopthedrugwar.org/chronicle/2010/apr/16/job_opportunities_cannbe_has_fiv

Speaker for Cannbe on you tube
    http://youtu.be/eTT–sq8zGI

I have plent of screenshots of Cannbe Website showing it is run by Don Duncan, Stephen D'Angelo and a couple of others.

The google search gives a phone number http://eastbay.citysearch.com/profile/737357990/oakland_ca/cannbe_enterprises.html - you can try calling that.

After prop 19 failure this article came out
    http://www.baycitizen.org/marijuana/story/cannbe-cant-be-demise-mcdonalds/

they took their website down, but then put it back up a few months later and continued on, the last time I checked several months ago it was up.  Now it is down again.  This same group of people led by Duncan has operated under the name Harborside Management (same people but different business as Harborside Dispensary)
    http://www.cannbe.com/cannbeservices.php

On this article is a copy of the email he sent to Sacramento City Council encouraging them to put a moratorium on dispensaries so he could help them install a restrictive permitting which of course he would help them with.
    http://theweedlynews.com/?p=9659

Original copies of that email are available.

Prop 19 – I took that to two attorneys and showed them where cannabis medical patients were given the right to posess and transport cannabis.  Cultivation was blatantly left out.  Under prop 215 patients can grow as much as they want.  In US, one voter iniative will override an earlier one.  Under prop 19 medical cannabis patients would only be allowed to have 5 plants.

ab2312 – Written by ASA – grandfathered in their "restrictive permitting stores".  All others would be shut down or face up to a year in prison.  ASA actually wrote a law to put their competition in prison.

What happened is I used to go to ASA and be a major supporter.  Once I had a problem with them and put it on Facebook dozens of people started writing me and sending me stuff, people who had been screwed over by them.  What it showed was a pattern of actually encouraging people to rise up but then using those same people as human cannon fodder in exchange for themselves and their investors getting a "Restrictive Permit".

You can quote me on that.

Also you may want to contact Craig Beresh who was running San Diego NORML as they tried to get an iniative funded that would have allowed level 2 and 3 zoning for dispensaries.  ASA put extreme efforts into their smear and intimidation campaign against him.  He has now founded California Cannabis Coalition.

William Walter West is also outspoken and has done alot of research on ASA.

But I probably do have the most documentation due to the fact that I have made these issues so public, people have sent this information to me.  Let me know what kinds of things you would like and I can try to dig them up.  I literally have about 20,000 emails, many unread and not just about ASA but marijuana in general, as well as about ten crates of files.  A few months ago I just put them in a stack b/c I had someone move into my spare room so they are a bit unorganized.  As well I have about ten gigs of screenshots and videos related to this entire mmj movement, and much showing the ASA smear campaigns.  Again, they are in ASA files but many are unorganized.

I would recommend watching these short video clips to get a grasp of what they are doing
http://youtu.be/ogPLYC7oPec (ASA lobbying to get restrictive permitting at the same time work is being done for fair and reasonable zoning and level 2 and 3 even being recommended by the SD City Council MMJ task force)

http://youtu.be/LeA2-vawVIE (ASA supposed narc lobbying for "just one store")

http://youtu.be/Qu8UIHIYmDY (ASA lobbying to get rid of comptition through restrictive permits)Yet they lie to the stores and pretend they are representing them.

http://youtu.be/oyUaaukDQR8 - Low quality movie but does show what their about.

If you let me know what kind of information would be helpful to your article I will try to dig it up.  I know Bill West likes to discuss this stuff.  His phone number is (phone#-removed)
    Craig Beresh is (phone#-removed)

In addition, if this was a "movement" the leaders of it would be encouraging everybody to grow cannabis and at least put in a couple of plants.  this would serve to make cannabis something that does not shock people and would also bring the price down to almost nothing.  Yet instead they laugh and ridicule that idea because not only do they want it to be an industry, they want to control and monopolize that industry.

    Dear Donna,

I am considering writing an expose on ASA for Cannabis Culture online.

Please send me the link or a scan of the "thinning of the herd" quote, the "McDonalds of Marijuana" quote and any other documents that you think I might find handy.

One of the problems some people have is that the original documents which contain these quotes are not available online through a google search, so some people doubt they exist or are wondering about the context.

Any actual documents or video would be appreciated.

    Sincerely,

    David Malmo-Levine

ASA will not let others speak because they want 100% control over their message that cannabis is do dangerous that only CannBe Corporation/ASA should be allowed to set up mega stores under their restrictive permitting pot monopoly.

Sunday, August 5 would have been the 63rd birthday of Peter McWilliams, the medical marijuana activist who died at the hands of the U.S. Government while in prison for growing marijuana for medical patients.

We will be honoring the memory of Peter McWilliams with four very special guests on the 6 p.m., Monday, Aug. 6 broadcast and simulcast of Marijuana Compassion and Common Sense.

Julia Rose – creator of the website petermcwilliams.org, a warm and very personal website about the life of Peter McWilliams.

Dennis Peron – given the mantle of father of California’s pioneering medical marijuana law.

Paul Krassner – 60s icon, comedian, satirist and marijuana promoter/activist for a half century.

Harold Bloomfield – a close personal friend of McWilliams who co-authored several books with Peter McWilliams.
