A2C2 Halloween/Pre-election Party – Tomorrow – Friday 10/31

From: jeffj – January 1, 1970

Dave Are you still open I say you a week ago on the news saying that the new law in San Jose was causing you to close. Did you find a new location I hope so as having you closed in that area is not good for patient access. Canna We Talk 2 Shasta Lake

From: savecannabis – January 1, 1970

From The Record Searchlight Oct. 18 2014 It was no smoke-in. A week ago I attended part of a daylong forum on medical marijuana at the community center in Shasta Lake. The room was filled with mostly middle-aged or older folks men and women who looked a lot like probably Im guessing you. A straight-looking group in other words. One speaker was longtime Trinity County doctor Terrance Malee now a cannabis consultant in Redding. He said the older people he sees are tired of the drugs theyre on the side effects and the constipation. People around the room nodding in agreement. Medical marijuana he said treats more medical problems than anything Ive prescribed. If it isnt one of Gods gifts I dont know what is. The 60-odd people in the room applauded. Malee listed diseases and ailments that he said respond to cannabis arthritis chronic pain nausea from cancer treatment insomnia (without Ambien amnesia) seizures Alzheimers Parkinsons schizophrenia anxiety depression PTSD ADHD For his part Malee said hes smoked pot since 1967. I dont need cannabis to be happy but it sure helps me see through a lot of the stuff that makes me unhappy. Applause. Pot he declared is less addictive than Pepsi Cola. No one has ever died from cannabis he said a claim repeated by other speakers. Pot and the Bible Between speakers I perused the literature on the tables. There was Democratic congressional candidate Heidi Halls position on medical marijuana. Close by was a pamphlet from the Family Council on Drug Awareness of El Cerrito titled Marijuana & the Bible. On the back it asked What do the Ten Commandments say about using marijuana There was a recipe How to make marijuana butter. And handouts on cannabis and Parkinsons. Outside there was a DJ playing music a table for the Queen of Dragons collective (sponsor of the Canna We Talk event) a table with No on Measure A (the outdoor grow ban) literature and banners a guy selling tamales and a couple working a hot dog truck. Not much going on outside. Almost everyone was inside listening to the dozen or so speakers from doctors and researchers to activists and a Colorado woman whose four-year-old son Landon survived leukemia she believes in part thanks to cannabis. Landon looking healthy and normal ran around the room and tugged on his mother as she spoke. Guess Id expected something different a younger crowd maybe and people that looked more likepotheads or aging potheads. I saw no pot or paraphernalia for sale at Canna We Talk What I saw instead was a bunch of ordinary-looking people who appear to be sick and tired of prescription drugs pushed by Big Pharma and who think or want to believe that marijuana cannabis could be a better more natural alternative. Put another way folks looking for that one magic natural drug to replace a medicine cabinet full of other drugs. Naive Maybe. But perhaps understandable.
